Hi Tim —

I wanted to congratulate you on the release of the new MBPs. I wrote you in 2016 very frustrated with the direction and must have been among many because I felt that my criticisms were heard at the highest levels (compliments to your support people).

The return to the convenience of built-in ports and other practical changes make me feel like Apple is once again making artful tools for working people instead of just artful machines. And of course Apple Silicon proves you can still utterly decimate the entire competitive playing field every once in a while.

But I wonder if Apple fully understands the impact Bootcamp had on the adoption of their tools after the last silicon change. To me and many others it removed any risk of switching platforms and it said loudly that Apple was so unafraid of Windows that “sure, knock yourself out…lol”

That was the bold and brave Apple that made me an Apple believer and I want to see more. And we need more.

We all now openly know that iMessage is an Apple exclusive in order to create a barrier to leaving. I say why isn’t iMessage an ensign inviting people to dip their toe into your ecosystem (by being multi-platform or open protocol) instead of a trap to keep them there…
